Second Straight One-Two Finish for Action Express

DENVER, NC (Aug. 8, 2016) - The Action Express Racing team recorded a one-two finish in Sunday's (Aug. 7) Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Wisconsin's Road America.

At the four-mile Road America course, co-drivers Dane Cameron and Eric Curran guided the No. 31 Whelen/Team Fox Corvette DP to the checkered flag. Action Express teammates Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi crossed the finish line second in the No. 5 Mustang Sampling Corvette DP in the two hour and 40 minute race.

It marks the second straight one-two finish for Action Express - and Cameron and Curran - at the Wisconsin track, as well as the third consecutive one-two finish this season for the team in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition. In addition, Action Express has three straight victories at Road America in sports car competition - with Barbosa and Fittipaldi finishing first in 2014.

This season, in addition to the win at Road America, Cameron and Curran registered a first-place finish at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (July 10) - with Barbosa and Fittipaldi recording a runner-up result. The finishing positions for the two Action Express entries were reversed in the race prior to the event in Canada, at Watkins Glen International (July 3) where the No. 5 (Barbosa and Fittipaldi) crossed the finish line ahead of the No. 31 (Cameron and Curran).

"It was certainly a really tough one here all day," said Cameron, following the race. "Tire wear is pretty high here, fuel consumption is high, and the competition in the Prototype class is certainly really top-notch right now. It is really tough to win races in this category. I'm really proud to be in this Action Express Whelen Corvette Daytona Prototype and to get two wins in a row. That's three one-two finishes in a row for Action Express - that's something really special and I'm proud to be a part of it. There are two more big races to push forward for the championship."

Cameron and Curran started fifth on the grid and led 25 of the event's 73 laps, including the final 17 laps around the Road America circuit.

"Dane did an awesome job all day today," Curran said. "The Whelen Engineering Corvette was spot-on. It wasn't a perfect race by any means. We had a few little issues, but at the end of the day it all worked out for us. It's been a good year for us. We're trying to win a championship here and it's fun to have another win."

"It is awesome to win two races in a row in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship," added Curran. "I'm really happy. We have three podiums in a row and three races in a row for Action Express with one-two finishes. It's pretty awesome stuff. It helps Dane (Cameron) and I in the championship - it's going to jump us up to our teammates in the No. 5 car."

It marks the third win of the 2016 IMSA season for Action Express Racing, as well as the third win in a row for Cameron at the track. Along with his two wins in the No. 31 Action Express Prototype entry, Cameron earned a win at the track in the GT Daytona class in 2014.

"To finish first and second three races in a row is an outstanding accomplishment for this entire race team," said Gary Nelson, team manager for Action Express Racing. "We've worked extremely hard all year long. Everybody on the race team - from the drivers and engineers to the mechanics and pit crew - have really done a good job over the past three races of taking care of business. We need to take this momentum from the past three races - and continue to work hard and be prepared - into the last two races of the year."

With the win, Cameron and Curran are now just one point behind Barbosa and Fittipaldi in the unofficial Prototype championship point standings. The leaders (Barbosa and Fittipaldi) in the IMSA Prototype championship standings have 253 points - just a single point ahead of second-place (Cameron and Curran). There are two races remaining on the 2016 schedule.

It marks the fifth time overall that Action Express Racing has registered a one-two finish. Along with finishing one-two three times this year - at Road America, in Canada and at Watkins Glen -- the team also finished first and second at Road America last year (2015) and The Raceway at Belle Isle, MI in 2012.

The victory at Road America was the 16th career win for Action Express Racing since the team was formed in 2010. The team has captured back-to-back IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championships (2014 and 2015), as well as consecutive Patron North America Endurance Cup championships (2014 and 2015).

The next race for the IMSA Prototype class is at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, on Sat., Sept. 17.
